The legendary Jon Jones will return to action this year, making his first appearance at heavyweight and could be facing an equally legendary opponent. The UFC boss has hinted at his plans for one of the best fighters in history.
It’s been more than two years since Jon Jones fought under the UFC banner. But then he yearned for a new challenge, relinquished the welterweight title and announced a move up in weight. Until now, he’s been training and building muscle.
But now he’s ready to get back into action and could be facing a very attractive opponent. In fact, the head of the organization, Dana White, is enticing combat sports fans for a very interesting summer.
While UFC 275 will take place in June, featuring the likes of Jiri Prochazka and Valentina Shevchenko, the UFC 276 tournament is scheduled for July, where Jones might just make an appearance.
“People are talking about what a great card we have planned for UFC 276 in July. In general, we’re really busy this summer. I hope we can include Jon Jones in our plans, that would be great,” White expressed to TMZ.
That date suits Jones himself, who previously tweeted June or July as the months he’d like to return to the cage.
And who could be his opponent? A fight with Stipe Miocic, arguably the best fighter in heavyweight history, who was dethroned by current champion Francis Ngannou, is in the cards.
As White himself said, a Jones-Miocic fight makes sense to him.
Moreover, Ngannou is now injured and will not fight for a long time. This raises the idea of Miocic and Jones fighting for the interim title.
