Maguire: If I played badly, I wouldn’t be in the starting lineup every game. There’s a reason why both coaches put me in regularly

Harry Maguire is one of the most criticised football players of our time. His performances are far beyond expectations, especially when Manchester United paid £80 million for him. But he does not admit the criticism.
On the internet, Maguire is often ridiculed, whether for his mistakes or his statements. Manchester United fans are fed up with the stopper and consider him the worst transfer in the club’s history.
the 29-year-old stopper is also the captain of the team, but he cannot control the defence and United are conceding a huge number of goals. Maguire himself, however, does not consider his performances to be that bad.
“Yes, I’ve had some bad games this season. But I wouldn’t play every game for Manchester United in the starting line-up if I was still playing badly. There is a reason why both coaches have put me or are putting me in the starting line-up every game, I have a lot to give to the team,” Maguire said in an interview with Sky Sports.
“But I also understand that I am the captain of this club and I cost a lot of money. So when things don’t go well and we get a lot of goals, I get criticised, ” the Manchester United and England stopper added.
Fighting against his own
It might not be a bad idea for Maguire to take a few games off and take the weight and pressure off himself. For at the moment, it looks like Maguire is fighting against his own fans, whom he wants to convince of his truth at all costs.
Just like last November, when Maguire came under a huge barrage of criticism after embarrassing losses to Liverpool (0::5) and Manchester City (0::2). But instead of self-criticism, he celebrated the goal scored during England’s game against Albania with his fingers in his ears, as if he can’t hear the critics.
But Maguire does indeed make huge mistakes and costs the Red Devils a lot of points. He has a big problem with covering space, often moving where he shouldn’t and then there are windows in the defence that opponents are happy to exploit.
Throwing criticism at himself just on the fact that he cost 80 million euros and not taking responsibility for his performances in doing so is insufficient from the club captain. Manchester United fans are used to completely different leaders and characters with the armband on their jersey.
