Ronald Koeman has made his mark on the minds of football fans in recent years, especially with his unsuccessful stint at Barcelona. However, after the end of his contract at Camp Nou, he already has the prospect of another prestigious challenge.
According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, the former national defender is expected to take over the Dutch national team. Following an agreement with the KNVB (Royal Dutch Football Association), he is due to take up the post on 1 January 2023, so he would be on the bench during the first national team cycle after the World Cup in Qatar.
This will not be Koeman’s first stint with the Dutch national team. He was assistant to Guus Hiddink in 1997-1998, twenty years later he had already been promoted to head coach, where he quit in 2020 to join Barcelona.
He will replace the experienced Louis van Gaal, who was given the confidence back at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. That will take place in late November and early December.
