McGregor has found himself another tough opponent! He challenged the welterweight champion
Conor McGregor certainly hasn’t lost any confidence with the losses. Quite possibly quite the opposite. He is expected to fight at lightweight once he recovers. But now he’s challenging the welterweight champion, who has only lost once in his career.
Conor McGregor certainly hasn’t lost any confidence with the losses. Quite possibly quite the opposite. He is expected to fight at lightweight once he recovers. But now he’s challenging the welterweight champion, who has only lost once in his career.
Conor McGregor is still recovering from his last fight during which he broke his leg. It was the second time in a row he was beaten by Dustin Poirier. It is expected that the Irishman could return to the cage in late summer or during the fall.
And it can’t be said that he suffers from a lack of ambition. For one thing, he faced Dustin Poirier for another fight, then challenged lightweight champion Charles Oliveira. There was also speculation about fights with Michael Chandler or Tony Ferguson.
“Right now I’m interested in a welterweight title fight with Kamaru Usman. He has nothing to threaten me with. I don’t see him as a threat. His ground and pound isn’t even that scary or threatening. Plus, he’s his age and he’s still getting older,” McGregor expressed in an interview with MacLife.
“I’ll take on the world again. The third crown will be mine. No one has ever had three titles in three different weight classes,” the Irishman added.
Usman is currently at the top of the UFC’s P4P rankings, managing to defend his title several times a year. In his last fight, he defeated Colby Covington for the second time, before that he defended twice against Jorge Masvidal.
Usman’s next defense is likely to be in the middle of the year, with Leon Edwards as his opponent.
UFC boss Dana White has already learned about McGregor challenging Usman. He is expected to meet with the Irishman soon, after which they will reportedly discuss his immediate future together.
