We recently informed you that former Denmark international Christian Eriksen is gradually returning to his passion and is expected to return to competitive matches. On Saturday, after eight months without football, he finally did it in Brentford’s match against Newcastle United.
Eriksen, who signed for Brentford in the January transfer window, received a heart implant after collapsing at the EURU in Copenhagen. His former club Inter Milan had to release him due to a ban on the use of such devices in Serie A.
In the previous game, still the manager of his new place of work Thomas Frank decided the player was not ready to face Arsenal. But a week after that, he was already given the chance to prove his worth against Newcastle. Although Frank decided that the Danish player would start the game on the bench, he did get on the pitch in the second half.
However, the game did not start happily for his team. In the 11th minute, Brentford midfielder Josh Dasilva spoiled his Danish teammate’s debut with a needless red card for a crude tackle. The weakened home team conceded two goals before the end of the half and went into the dressing room with their heads down.
The Danish playmaker’s moment came seven minutes after the change of sides when Eriksen replaced his compatriot Mathias Jensen. The fans at the Brentford Community Stadium gave Eriksen a really warm standing ovation.
Unfortunately, even after the Danish star came on, the cards did not turn and the visiting team strolled to another victory against a toothless home side. Brentford, on the other hand, have been waiting for a Premier League victory for eight long matches.
Since his arrival at Brentford Community Stadium, the Danish international has coached and played his part in several friendlies behind closed doors. This was to gain game time as he wanted to make a significant return.
Unfortunately, this did not happen, mainly due to the exclusion of a teammate, and Eriksen will have to wait for his team to win. His next opportunity will come next Saturday against Norwich.
