Diaby and Schick are part of the second most striking trio in Germany. Can Leverkusen keep him in the summer?
Bayer Leverkusen are one of the most offensive teams in the Bundesliga this season and a big part of that is due to Patrik Schick. Along with him, however, Florian Wirtz and Moussa Diaby also form an excellent attacking trio. Diaby may be spending his last season in Germany.

Bayer Leverkusen boasts an excellent attacking trio. Patrik Schick, Moussa Diaby and Florian Wirtz have already scored 42 competitive goals this season. Across the top five leagues, only Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Real Madrid have a better trio.
Moussa Diaby is the second highest goalscorer of the Leverkusen trio. He has scored 13 goals in 28 competitive games, adding a respectable 8 assists, which only increases his importance to his team.
Still only 22 years old, the Frenchman arrived in Germany in the summer of 2019 from PSG, already showing great potential in his first two seasons at Leverkusen, but now he has increased his effectiveness and is confirmed to be one of the main stars of his team. What’s more, he’s asking for a transfer to a bigger club.
Diaby is adorned with tremendous speed, great dribbling and perfect coverage of the ball in motion. When he runs, he’s hard to stop. He can play in both open and well-organised defences. In addition, he has a very creative mindset and is able to create a good number of chances for his teammates.
If there’s one thing he needs to work on, it’s personal battles. However, he doesn’t have the right physical attributes for those. However, there is a lot he can improve on defensively.
In recent months, Diaby has been linked with a move to Aston Villa, but he is keen to play in the Champions League, so the move is unrealistic. However, there has been a lot of speculation about Liverpool’s interest, and a move to Spain could also be in play.
According to Transfermarkt, Diaby is now valued at €40 million, but Leverkusen would definitely not sell him for a similar amount, they will definitely demand at least €60 million, if not more.
However, it is quite possible that Bayer will try to keep him. The German side would like to break their unflattering nickname “Neverkusen” and win something, Diaby’s departure would not help. But the fact is, the Bundesliga is getting small for him.
