For Senegal, it was the first ever triumph in the history of the championship. The team around striker Mané, defender Koulibaly or goalkeeper Mendy had been close to overall victory two years earlier. At the 2019 championship in Egypt, however, the Senegalese fell only in the final to the Algerians.
In total, the fifty-two matches offered above all a great football spectacle. A total of 100 goals were scored during the championship, with the top scorer being eight-goaler Vincent Aboubakar, whose home side Cameroon eventually finished in third place.
In the video below, you can watch the ten most beautiful goals, which will undoubtedly delight the eye of many a football fan. And the very first goal comes from the eight-final match between Cameroon and Comoros.
The defender Chaker Alhadhur from French Ajaccio had to play for the Comoros because of a coronavirus, but he certainly did not bring any shame to his team. Moreover, the visitors played with ten men from the ninth minute.
Midfielder M’Changama corrected the two-goal deficit to 2:1 with a beautiful direct kick from a really impressive distance.
The second goal of the official selection can also be classified as a long-range shot. Already in the seventh minute of the eight-final match, the favourites from Morocco were surprised by Malawi striker Gabadinho Mhango.
However, it was not the only goal of the match. The Moroccans were not to be shamed either, with PSG defender Achraf Hakimi scoring the decisive goal for the final 2-1 scoreline for the North African country from a relatively long-range direct kick.
Among the other randomly mentioned exhibition scorers, the Ivorian striker Max Gradel, who currently plays for Bournemouth, certainly scored the winner against Equatorial Guinea.
Gambia’s progress was secured in the last minute of the match against Tunisia by striker Ablie Jallow, who had plenty of time to send in his elusive projectile.
Other showpieces certainly include the skill of Cape Verde striker Garry Rodrigues, who headed the ball into the Cameroon net with his foot. Sierra Leone striker Kamara Musa, on the other hand, contributed to the draw against the favoured Ivory Coast with his uncompromising finishing and a great shot.
