Cameroon and Burkina Faso impressed in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals on Saturday, and on Sunday we will find out who completes the top four. Favoured Senegal will face Equatorial Guinea.
Senegal is one of the few selections to boast unbeaten record. In the group, it drew twice, won once and advanced from first place, while in the eighth round it handled Cape Verde smoothly (2: 0).
Equatorial Guinea even collected more points in the group stage. Two wins (one against Algeria) were enough for second place, and in the eighth round Guinea eliminated Mali on penalties after 120 minutes without a goal.
Senegal will most likely have to do without Sadio Mané, who scored in the eighth round but also got injured. Defensive stalwart Kalidou Koulibaly will have to continue his good performances.
Basilio Ndong, a skilful left back who plays in the Norwegian league, has been performing well for Guinea. Right-back Carlos Akapo is playing at right-back for Spanish top-flight side Cádiz.
Senegal boasts an impeccable defence. Thanks to their leader Koulibaly, they are the only team in the tournament that has not scored yet.
And nothing should change for Equatorial Guinea, who have scored just two goals in four games at the tournament.
Given Senegal’s excellent defensive performance, I think they will advance in normal time.
