Walk will train with the legendary Jon Jones. Why did Henry Cejudo invite him to the camp?
Recently we learned that Jiri Prochazka will fight for the UFC welterweight title after only two fights in the organization. His opponent is the veteran Glover Teixeira, who is well known to be able to torment his opponents especially on the ground.
Recently we learned that Jiri Prochazka will fight for the UFC welterweight title after only two fights in the organization. His opponent is the veteran Glover Teixeira, who is well known to be able to torment his opponents especially on the ground. That’s why the Moravian fighter is heading to the USA, specifically to the Henry Cejudo gym. He is a former UFC title holder in two weight classes and an Olympic freestyle champion in Beijing.
Henry Cejudo on Prochazka’s invitation
Prochazka has a great chance to improve as a fighter, work on his gaps and expand his skill set. Henry Cejudo chose him himself and invited him to his camp.
“Jiri Procházka is the only fighter we invited ourselves because my coach asked for him. I asked him which fighter has the best chance of picking up the championship belt in the near future. He pointed to Jiri, so we approached him,” he said in his podcast.
“I love Glover and his whole story of how he won the championship belt. What he’s doing at 42 years old is something incredible. His wrestling in particular is at a great level, so I consider it a great challenge. But frankly, I see gaps in his wrestling and we’ll work together on some strategy. I believe we will help Jiri to get the belt,” he added.
Prochazka will also meet Jon Jones in preparation
And that Procházka has a lot to look forward to during the American camp! Cejudo currently works at the Fight Ready Gym in Phoenix, where the biggest stars of contemporary MMA such as Deiveson Figueiredo, Weili Zhang and Jon Jones train.
“By the time Jiri gets here, Jon Jones should be here too. Iron sharpens iron! These fighters are really on another level”, he said in his latest podcast.
Walk will be in the US for three weeks, so he’ll have plenty of time to prepare for his title shot. Both of his current coaches will oversee the entire training camp. Martin Karaivanov will be with Jiri in the USA for the first part of the preparation, then they will switch with Jaroslav Hovezak.
We’ll find out how the changes in the training process will translate to the fight on May 7 at the UFC 274 gala.
