Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott celebrates a dream return to the pitch after fracturing his ankle. He contributed to his team’s progress in the FA Cup with his goal!
Last September, now 18-year-old midfielder Harvey Elliott suffered a small sporting tragedy. He came down with a nasty looking ankle injury during a game against Leeds.
It was obvious at first glance that it was fractured, with only the ligaments and tendons holding his foot together with the rest of his leg. It was unclear how long the Fulham offspring would be out for, and in the extreme case he was facing the end of his career.
Now all the gloom has been banished. Elliott is once again running around football lawns and can enjoy the sport he loves so much. He’s even sweetened his return to the field in a way he couldn’t have found better. He scored his first goal in a Liverpool jersey against Cardiff in the FA Cup!
And it wasn’t just any goal. Elliott showed how he controls the ball perfectly and how he can finish accurately at speed. The Cardiff goalkeeper had no chance! Reds coach Jürgen Klopp had nothing but praise for the midfielder.
“Harvey was patient, I’m happy he’s back. He’s a great player. To see him score was literally a warm moment for me,” the German coach told Sky Sports.
“I still can’t find enough words to describe the moment after my goal. It wasn’t bad!
I would like to thank everyone at the club who helped me get back on the pitch. Special thanks also to my family who have been behind me all the way and supported me. I’ve put my injuries behind me, I’m back!”
Let’s hope that serious injuries will avoid the talented player in a wide arc.
