This weekend we can look forward to the first numbered UFC event of the year. The 270-numbered tournament will feature two famous title fights. Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane will battle for the flyweight championship belt. What to expect from the fight and what to bet on?
UFC 270 will offer an attractive heavyweight title fight. Francis Ngannou will be defending his belt against his former training partner Ciryl Gane.
Quite surprisingly, according to the bookmakers, Gane, who holds a 10-0 record in his career, is the favorite for this fight. The opinion of many people and bookmakers may have been swayed by a video where Ngannou was no match for his former sparring partner.
However, Ngannou reassures all fans that he definitely did not give 100 percent in training with his apparently now former friend, and that he will be many times better in the fight.
The fact is that Gane is faster than the reigning champion, as well as being more technical, has great footwork and is also better on the ground. But Ngannou has improved in many ways, as he showed in his last fight when he destroyed the legendary Stipe Miocic.
Ngannou has never been knocked out, plus he’ll be a world away from Gane in terms of power. It can be expected that Gane could be heading for a points win, while Ngannou will be looking for a stoppage.
An important factor in the fight will be Ngannou’s success rate against potential takedowns. Gane knows what kind of punch Francis has, even with his speed, and with his good eye he certainly won’t want to risk getting hit by his former partner.
And what’s your bet? Ngannou has lost three times on points, all of his 16 wins coming early. So betting on the fight to be decided by points judges may be risky.
The fight shouldn’t go to the championship rounds. However, given the odds, it is definitely worth taking a gamble and betting on Ngannou to win.
