Did AFCON see the goal of the year? This bomb caught André Onana by surprise

The eighth-final duel between Cameroon and Comoros did not bring any surprises. As expected, the home team advanced to the quarter-finals, but the match offered one bizarre moment and one incredible goal.

The bizarre situation happened because of the choice of the Comoros’ number one goalkeeper for this match. Left-back Chaker Alhadhur had to stand in goal because number one Salim Ben Boina was injured and both Komor’s substitute goalkeepers found themselves isolated due to covid.

Another unlucky moment (for Comoros) came in the 7th minute of the match. Stoker Nadjim Abdou was shown a red card and Comoros went down to ten men.

But even though the Comoros were essentially playing without a seasoned goalkeeper and shorthanded, they gave the favored Cameroon relative problems.

By the 81st minute, Michael Ngade’s (ex-Slavic stopper) team was quietly leading 2-0, only then came the quite possibly 2022 goal!

Comoros played in a direct kick from a good 35 yards out and experienced goalkeeper André Onana didn’t even put up a wall and maybe he should have! See for yourself!

Youssouf M’Changama may have caught himself by surprise with that bomb and put Comoros back in the game. However, the island nation could do no more and so it was the favoured Cameroon who advanced to the quarter-finals.

the 31-year-old M’Changama was clearly the Comoros’ best player, with the most touches of the ball of the team (69) during the match. He made two key passes and finished three times.

He also had one successful dribble and was fouled three times. WhoScored gave the Marseille, France native a nice 7.85 rating.
