Liverpool “blew it” Tottenham one of the most sought-after wingers of our time. Will he take the Reds to the next level?
Liverpool won’t be idle during the winter transfer window after all. Their first signing should be 25-year-old Colombian winger Luis Díaz from Porto.
Liverpool won’t be idle during the winter transfer window after all. Their first signing should be 25-year-old Colombian winger Luis Díaz from Porto.
The amount Liverpool paid for the Colombian should be around 40 million euros. In bonuses, Porto could collect another 15 million Euros.
According to reports, Díaz was eyeing a move to rival Tottenham not long ago. However, rival Liverpool have stepped in. The Reds’ offer should have softened Porto enough to send their biggest prop to England.
Porto took on Jürgen Klopp’s side in the Champions League group stage. Despite Liverpool’s two relatively comfortable wins, Díaz reportedly impressed some of their scouts.
How Díaz will help Liverpool’s game
At first glance, Luis Díaz impresses with his superior technical ability. With his high productivity for a winger, he also fits in well with Klopp’s style.
As a left winger through the leg, he will most likely feature in the attack in place of Sadio Mané. Díaz has been so used to playing at Porto practically since he transferred to Portugal from Colombian side Junior FC in 2019.
However, he could also use his technical skills in the middle of the attack in a false nine role. That is, the position where the great Diogo Jota currently plays. He is used to creating space for runs in behind the defence from Salah and Mané with his movement.
It should be added that Díaz has never played this position before. However, he has the right skills for the position and under Jürgen Klopp, retraining into this position should be no problem.
Liverpool’s purchase of Luis Díaz gives them another interesting option in attack, which could put interesting pressure on the trio of Mané – Jota – Salah. Moreover, in the absence of one of the trio, Klopp will now have real quality on the bench.
