FIFA traditionally organises The Best FIFA Football Awards to reward quality work in different sectors and positions. Robert Lewandowski was named Player of the Year, beating out Lionel Messi for the Ballon d’Or.
FIFA traditionally organises The Best FIFA Football Awards to reward quality work in different sectors and positions. Robert Lewandowski was named Player of the Year, beating out Lionel Messi for the Ballon d’Or.
The most important award is arguably The Best FIFA Men’s Player Award, the trophy for the best player of the year. The winner is Poland’s Robert Lewandowski, who edged out Lionel Messi for the Ballon d’Or.
The Goalkeeper of the Year was twenty-nine-year-old Senegalese Edouard Mendy, who put in an outstanding performance in a Chelsea jersey.
The Coach of the Year is from the same squad, namely Thomas Tuchel. The German coach joined the Blues only a year ago, however, he managed to win the Champions League with his team.
The Puskás Award, the award for the best goal of the year, went to Argentine Erik Lamela for his rabona against Arsenal. Patrik Schick also made the top three with his goal against Scotland.
A special prize went to Cristiano Ronaldo, who was rewarded for his long-term work and performance.
The women were also awarded. Emma Hayes, who coaches Chelsea, was voted the female coach. Goalkeeper of the Year was Christiane Endler from Chile, who plays for Lyon. The special award went to Christine Sinclair.
