An agreement between the clubs has been reached! Kieran Trippier will become Newcastle United’s first signing after the club was taken over by a Saudi Arabian investment fund.
The transfer price is expected to be around £12 million, although there was still speculation of double that amount not long ago.
The deal between Atletico Madrid and Newcastle has already been confirmed by the very renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Kieran Trippier did not attend Monday’s training session in Madrid, which only strengthens speculation that he could be on his way to Newcastle.
The experienced England international has played for a number of clubs in his career. Premier League fans will remember him from his time at Tottenham. He even played in the Champions League final with the Roosters.
Newcastle United are currently only nineteenth in the league table. The club with the worst ever defence in the league (along with last-placed Norwich) will not avoid a tough fight for salvation in the spring.
New coach Eddie Howe has made decent game progress with the team, however, he still hasn’t managed to pick up many points that will ultimately decide who stays in the competition.
