The first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final between Arsenal and Liverpool has been postponed. There are too many players infected with the coronavirus in the Liverpool squad. Liverpool couldn’t even train.
The match, which was due to be played on 6 January at the Emirates Stadium, has been postponed. Arsenal were due to welcome Liverpool there in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. A rematch was due to take place the following week at Liverpool’s ground.
It now looks like the first semi-final match will be played next Thursday, January 13. Liverpool will be the home team. The return leg should come a week later. So on the 20th of January there will be a rematch with Arsenal as the home team.
The game has been moved at Liverpool’s request. They have a large number of players infected with the coronavirus. Because of this illness, Liverpool’s last training session did not take place.
Liverpool had already had several players out over the weekend. Allison Becker, Roberto Firmino and Joel Matip did not start because of the coronavirus infection. Jürgen Klopp did not appear on the bench for the same reason.
But now the disease has spread in Liverpool’s squad. For this reason, they have requested the postponement of the match against Arsenal.
If Liverpool couldn’t even start the match next week, the first leg would most likely be abandoned. Arsenal would therefore win 3-0 and move closer to reaching the final.
