Ousmane Dembélé has finally healed his injured knee and is starting to get into shape. He has shone in the last two games and Xavi hopes to keep him. However, the French winger has been contacted by Newcastle, who want to build a new team around him to conquer the Premier League.
Dembélé is a very hot topic at Barcelona. The management of the Catalan club is trying to persuade the 24-year-old winger to sign a new contract, but according to the Spanish newspaper Sport, the negotiations ended in failure.
The 24-year-old winger himself reportedly wants to stay at the Camp Nou, but he is reportedly asking for a higher financial compensation, which is a big problem for the Catalan outfit at the moment and which they have virtually no way of solving.
Moreover, one has to take into account the fact that he has spent most of his time at Barcelona recovering from his injuries and has certainly not lived up to the huge expectations that were placed on him.
In more than 4 years at Barcelona, Dembélé has played just 126 games, scoring 30 goals and assisting another 23. Surely we are not that far from the truth if we say that he has been injured more times than he has scored goals.
However, Newcastle have now weighed in on the whole situation and, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, have already contacted the player himself and his agent to see if there is any possibility of bringing him to England.
But this is definitely not to Xavi’s liking, who is pushing the management to come to an urgent agreement with the player. The last few days have made it clear to everyone why the young Barcelona coach is doing this.
Dembélé, in fact, started to get into great form shortly after his return and against Elche and Sevilla he was one of the best players on the pitch, contributing two assists as well.
It is unclear how the whole situation will play out. What is certain, however, is that the French winger could leave for free in the summer, which is definitely not suited to the Catalan side in their current situation.
Therefore, there is talk that if the two sides fail to reach an agreement, Dembélé will be sold and the club will at least get some funds to buy new players.
