Wins, successes, possibly recalling Mikel Arteta and bringing in a world-class coach? That’s roughly what the Christmas wish list of quite a few London fans might look like. But for now, they are out of luck.
Still, Arsenal decided to make their fans at least a little happy. It’s not a trophy, but a certain nostalgic reminder of a successful era will not leave a fan’s heart cold.
The Gunners have unveiled a special retro jersey, which is mostly identical to the one in which the stars of the London team won the Cup Winners’ Cup in the 1993/94 season.
The video in which the jersey is presented is really good. Everyone involved clearly enjoyed the brief return to the 90s appropriately.
In addition, club legend Ian Wright appears in the clip. “I have amazing memories of the jersey, it’s great to celebrate our successful era in this way. I even had to remind some of the players that we won the Cup Winners’ Cup in it, so now they have to win something,” he commented to the club website.
Arsenal’s players and players will be sporting retro jerseys between December 9 and 15. So we will see it twice in the Gunners’ men’s games, namely in the home games against Southampton and West Ham.
