UEFA Best Player: best player of the Champions League group stages? Poland’s Robert Lewandowski keeps hitting

The world’s most exclusive club competition, the Champions League, has concluded its preliminary group fights and the teams advancing to the spring knockout rounds are now known. The Ruik.cz portal, which represents the Czech Republic in the Best Player UEFA poll of the German magazine Kicker, has as usual searched for the best player of this section. Bayern Munich’s Polish canon Robert Lewandowski is still hitting the ball and shining.

The Ballon d’Or for 2021 should have gone not to Argentine shield-bearer Lionel Messi, but to Polish goalkeeper Robert Lewandowski in the service of German Bayern Munich – many football stars agree and would rather see their teammate but also their opposite number on the royal throne. The main argument they put forward is his goalscoring performances, during which he knows no fatigue.

He is on the rampage again in the German Bundesliga, where he is breaking record after record and erasing the famous names of the past from the annals of history. He is also scoring in the Champions League, with nine goals against his opponents.

“Bayern sovereignly passed the regular group and once again the Polish killer has a big part in it. Nine goals in six games says it all,” emphasises Karel Brettscheinder, bookmaker at the Chance bookmaker. “In his performance, it’s kind of taken for granted,” but he points out that the Polish striker is becoming a victim of his fame.

The whole team, however, benefits from the goals of its cannonballer. “Bayern are among the biggest favourites for both the Bundesliga title and the overall Champions League triumph,” Brettscheinder analyses. “The Bavarian team certainly has no other goals and Lewandowski is a key cog in the machine. If he stays healthy, we can expect him to put in a similarly dominant performance as in previous years,” he believes the Warsaw native will keep up his scoring appetite.

Former Czechoslovak and Czech national player Günter Bittengel shares the same opinion. “Lewandowski is a certainty that never disappoints,” he declares. He also leans on the surprises that the autumn part of the Champions League has offered.

“After years, Barcelona did not qualify for the spring rounds, which will have sporting and financial consequencesfor them ,” he observes. It was Lewandowski who contributed in the displacement of the Catalan pride, scoring twice at Camp Nou, Bayern won 3: 0.

Unlike his colleagues, permanent jury member Erich Brabec found another chosen one. And he also singled out the goalscoring merits. “Sébastien Haller from Ajax Amsterdam ,” reveals his choice. “The French native representing the Ivory Coast was the only one to score in every game, scoring ten goals,” Brabec reveals even better statistics than Lewandowski offers.

“In terms of contribution to the team, it’s the same, Ajax also won all six games like Bayern Munich, although they probably had an easier group,” admits the former Czech international.

The scorers are simply on course. The spring Champions League matches will show who will be in cannon form and shoot their team to the trophy.
