Probably the best match of the ongoing women’s tournament at Roland Garros! In her second Grand Slam semifinal, Karolina Muchova took on the second-ranked player in the world and after a dramatic turnaround, she’s heading into Saturday’s final! How did the Czech player react to an incredible match full of emotions and pain?
The heroic turnaround took a lot of physical strength from the Czech tennis player
She reached the bottom of her strength, but it was worth it! The hot inferno on Philippe Chatrier’s court took a toll on the Czech tennis player’s physical strength, but she caught her second wind at the end and will advance to Saturday’s final, where she will fight for the first grand slam of her career.
It was already looking like a clear victory for the Belarusian favourite. But after a heroic turnaround in the third set, Karolina Muchova defeated the world number two and will play in Saturday’s Roland Garros final.
The first two sets found their resolution in the tiebreak. Muchova won the first set, while Sabalenka took the second. The third set was played from the start, but the 26-year-old Czech’s physical decline was evident from the very first stroke.
Everything indicated that she would not make it to the Grand Slam final. At 2:5 Sabalenka had a match point, but despite the unfavourable situation and the obvious difficulty of movement Muchová showed an incredible turnaround. Thanks to her opponent’s unforced errors, she won five consecutive games and the victory of her life.
Still, Muchová would have taken the match one more time!
A chanting crowd, huge emotions, maybe even a tear under the towel. A great moment for the Czech tennis player. It was hard to get up, but the support of the crowd helped her to get to the microphone and tell her first impressions.
“Thank you all, I really don’t know what exactly happened,” she shook her head in disbelief, as if she couldn’t believe that it really happened. “You guys kept me going the whole game, so I kept fighting. I’m so happy, I don’t even know how it happened.”
She showed not only a huge passion for the game, but also a lot of variation in her strokes and attractive tennis. “I hear people say that, but I don’t want to think about it too much. I don’t want to be too proud. That’s just the way my game is, we’ve been working on it for a long time. I would like to thank my team, it’s our success together,” she said modestly.
“It’s amazing to play on this beautiful court. Even in front of so many people. I would love to do it again. People are cheering me on, even when I go to wipe my face with a towel. It’s an amazing feeling,” she said, not hiding her excitement. Will she get her first career grand slam on Saturday?
