He started the season in a great way, following up his performance at the very successful European Championships. However, Patrik Schick was injured at the end of October and didn’t appear in any matches for a month, he had to miss the national team meeting. But now he is back on the pitch.
Last season didn’t go quite as expected for Leverkusen, but Patrik Schick is already handling this season perfectly. In 13 competitive games he scored 8 goals and added 2 assists.
He scored all of his goals in the Bundesliga, which kept him ahead of star scorers Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland until his injury.
While the Polish goalscorer is quietly scoring goal after goal and has already scored 14 in the Bundesliga, the Norwegian has been injured and the Czech striker may overtake him as he is only one goal behind him in the scorers’ table.
However, it is questionable in what form Schick will return. He has only joined training with his teammates this week. In an interview for the programme Dohráno on ČT Sport, he revealed that until now he has spent six to seven hours every day on rehabilitation, which has not been easy for him, especially mentally.
“I’m glad to have it over and be back on the pitch. It’s more about football now. Before I got injured, I was on a roll. When I got chances, I usually scored. I’m curious how I’ll feel,” the Czech striker let himself be heard.
For now, it is not certain when he will be back in action. Leverkusen play Celtic on Thursday and Schick would like to start, but if that doesn’t happen, he believes he could hit the weekend’s game against Leipzig, where his team will need every great player.
If there’s one regret for the Leverkusen star, it’s missing the national team reunion. The Czech Republic took on Kuwait and Estonia, with Schick describing the first opponent as really weak.
He said he would have liked to shoot, he wants to move up in the national team in terms of goals. But beyond that, he praised the Estonians.
The national team will have to qualify for the World Cup, according to Schick, advancement is a clear task. If he could choose an opponent, he would definitely choose Scotland, as he says he has only the best memories of the country.
Will his wish come true and can he get back to the form he was playing in before he was injured?
