Real Madrid beat Shakhtar 2:1, Benzema – Vinícius were on a rampage

In the fourth round of the Champions League, Real Madrid welcomed Shakhtar Donetsk to their stadium. The Spanish side beat their rivals for the second time and after winning 2:1 they moved to the top of the table ahead of Sheriff Tiraspol.

In the first match between the two sides, Real Madrid thrashed Shakhtar in Ukraine 5: 0, with Vinícius, Rodrygo, Benzema scoring twice and Kryvtsov scoring an own goal. Shakhtar wanted to return the defeat to Real in the rematch, which would be nothing new for them. Last season, the two teams also met in the Champions League group stage and Shakhtar won 3-2 in Madrid.

Los Blancos started this match very decently. In the fifth minute Luka Modric had a chance, but his shot to the left post was saved by Anatoly Trubin. In the tenth minute, the Ukrainian side also made a response, but Alan Patrick’s shot from the penalty spot hit only the bar.

But then the home side made themselves known again. In the 14th minute, Karim Benzema got his chance after a mistake by Shakhtar and the Frenchman, who is in amazing form, made no mistake – 1: 0.

Three minutes later, Modric could have increased the score, but his next attempt was stopped by Trubin again with a great save. After that, Real Madrid seemed to fall out of the role and let the opponent play.

Shakhtar had a great chance in the 32nd minute, but Fernando failed. However, he made up for it moments later. The active Alan Patrick passed the ball to Fernando, who easily beat Thibaut Courtois to level the match at 1-1.

Fernando could have added another goal before half-time. In the 45th minute he shot towards the bar, but this time Courtois controlled the mini-match.

In the second half, Real Madrid stepped on the gas again. In the 61st minute, the White Ballet produced a stunning combination that lived up to its nickname. Vinícius collided with Casemiro, who heel-stepped him into the box, the Brazilian winger still passed the ball to Benzema, who sent Real back into the lead.

Real Madrid took the rest of the game in their stride and notched an important win in an erratic group.
