Diego Simeone: Griezmann is back on top

With Antoine Griezmann back in the Spanish capital, Atlético Madrid are thriving and if they continue to do so, we could see them defend their title from last season. Currently, coach Diego Simeone’s team is in 4th place after 11 rounds played, 3 points behind leaders Real Sociedad.
Atlético defeated Real Betis 3-0 in Sunday’s match. Currently, Simeone’s charges are in a very good starting position in La Liga, with the second big favourite to win the title (Real Madrid) only two points away.
Atlético’s good performance was also helped by the French canon, who was praised by Simeone in the post-match interview.
“When I think of today’s game, I immediately think of Griezmann. Hard-working, unbreakable, hungry for goals. I think that’s how we know him. By how hard he works for the team,” explained the experienced coach.
Yannick Ferreira Carrasco was the best player against Betis, scoring one goal and assisting the other. WhoScored even gave the Belgian winger a 9.8 rating.
Griezmann, however, was not left behind at all and worked hard for the team, earning a rating of 8.5. And if you take into account that he didn’t help his team like Carrasco did with a goal or an assist, then you have to put in a particularly outstanding performance to get that mark.
It looks like Simeone has once again found a striker who will bring different options to the team, thus bringing more productivity and making the job of the lethal Suárez easier.
Moreover, we must not forget that Atlético also have the trio of João Félix, Ángel Correa or Matheus Cunha. The reigning Spanish champion thus has a very loaded bench that has a great chance to walk again for the title.
Simeone’s bunch will then face their next game on Wednesday when they face Liverpool at Anfield in a rematch. The first leg ended 2-3.
