Old Trafford may not be one of the most boisterous places in the world, but Manchester United fans revere and celebrate their legends and favourites even years after their passing. They will have to stop singing one of their chants though.

Park-Ji Sung may not be one of the biggest personalities in Manchester United’s history, but he has earned his place among the club’s legends. Between 2005 and 2012, he did a hell of a job for the Red Devils and won over perhaps every fan.

The South Korean earned himself the nickname “Motor Mouse” and fans celebrated him with several chants. One of them is about eating dogs in his homeland. And that’s the one he doesn’t want to hear in stadiums anymore.

He made his plea, along with his reasoning, on the club’s official podcast, the UTD Podcast.

The last time he recorded the chant was in August when Manchester United played at Wolverhampton. In that match, Wolves’ new signing, South Korean Hwang Hee-chan, was brought on.

“I’m sorry he had to hear that. I know the fans don’t want to offend anyone with this song, but I still have to ask them to stop with the dog-eating insinuations. It‘s an insult to the Korean people nowadays,” Park let out.

“A lot has changed in Korea. We used to eat dog meat, but nowadays especially the younger generation hates it. The culture has changed. It is unpleasant for Koreans to hear such insinuations,” the Asian football legend added.

Manchester United stands behind its former player and fully supports and respects his request. The club is asking its fans to do the same.
