Sunday’s 7th round of the English top football competition offered a lot of interesting spectacle and the Liverpool-Manchester City derby at Anfield Road is definitely one of them.
The duel after an unattractive first half picked up a lot of momentum in the second half. Within 45 minutes, four goals were scored, two on each side.
The one that captured the eyes of Reds fans in the 76th minute was scored by Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah. The player thus equalled the league’s top scorer to date, Vardy, with 6 goals.
The striker, in a style similar to Lionel Messi, started his individual action on the edge of the whitewash. With precise work with the ball, he bypassed the trio of defending players of Silva, Cancelo and Foden.
Salah then caught out defender Emerick Laporte with a quick change of direction and the last man to fail in his role was goalkeeper Ederson. He couldn’t deal with the shot at the back post and could only helplessly fish the ball out of his net.
Despite the countless phenomenal goals Salah has scored during his career, it could be argued that this was one of the most beautiful.
However, the stunned City defence didn’t have to mourn for too long as the coveted equaliser came just 5 minutes later. Kevin De Bruyne scored the final goal to make it 2-2, but he was assisted by a Joel Matip cross.
Both teams parted with one point and remain in contact with the leading London Chelsea. However, after 7 rounds played, the Premier League table is extremely balanced and anyone can shuffle the cards.
