Probably all of us in our childhood played with inflatable balloons that were not allowed to hit the ground. Barcelona stopper Gerard Piqué and his favourite streamer Ibai Llanos are now organising a world championship in this discipline.
It all started as a joke. Ibai, a hugely popular streamer in Spain who makes videos with Piqué, Agüero and Courtois, shared a video on his Twitter account from the Tik Tok app of two young men pinging an inflatable ball until it falls to the ground.
However, both Ibai and Piqué liked the game so much that they decided to make a world championship out of it. The game will look like this:
“Let’s create a world championship with inflatable balloons. It’s a game we’ve all played at least once at home. We will create the perfect conditions for it,” Ibai informed in the video.
“We know that people think it’s stupid. But we’re serious, even if it’s funny. It’s a competition that you can compete in. There are people from South America, Spain, France, Portugal and Asia, in fact from all the big countries. We want people from all over the world to take part,” said Gerard Piqué.
The competition, called the “Baloon World Cup”, or “Mundial de globos” in Spanish, will take place on October 14 and Piqué and Ibai have really stepped it up. There will be VAR, and the players will be attending press conferences. The Baloon World Cup already has an official Twitter page. The winner will take home an as yet undisclosed amount. You’ll be able to watch the entire championship on Twitch, on Ibai Llanos’ channel.
If you want to participate, just fill out the form on the Ballon World Cup Twitter page and submit a video of your inflatable balloon skills.
