The fifth round of the Premier League brought a surprise in the match between Manchester City and Southampton, when neither team managed to score a goal. Saints took away a very valuable point from Manchester. The home side, on the other hand, are sad.
Manchester City were among the top teams in the Premier League, having 9 points for 3 wins. In the opening round, they surprisingly lost against Tottenham. Southampton had only one point from 4 games. Citizens were therefore the clear favourites.
But on the pitch, the favourite was unrecognisable. The visitors were very active in attacking and didn’t let the home team do anything. Manchester City had only one shot on target all game. But as time went on, the pace of attacking began to drop and the home side got more into the game. They were dangerous but failed to score.
The only major stats entry might have been a foul by Kyle Walker, who fouled in his own penalty area. Walker was red-carded and Manchester had to play with ten men from the 63rd minute. In addition, Southampton were denied a penalty. However, the video changed everything and the red card and penalty were waived.
The match ended in a goalless draw, but the visitors can be satisfied because a draw with Manchester City is not always possible. In the next round, Soton will play against Wolves. Manchester City will have an interesting and difficult duel with Chelsea.
