North Macedonia will face an important match on Wednesday in the fight for the World Cup barrage. It will welcome Romania, whose squad includes Nicolae Stancio and Florin Nita.
Macedonia is in fourth place in the six-team group at the halfway point of the qualification, but is only two points behind second-placed Armenia. It has not won at this meeting yet, first drawing with Armenia, then with Iceland.
Romania, on the other hand, has bounced back from a miserable start to jump to third in the table. They are now one point behind Armenia, helped by two wins last week against Iceland and Liechtenstein (both 2-0).
Macedonia’s squad includes Ezgjan Alioski, who has experience in the Premier League, while Eljif Elmas plays for Italian side Napoli. Milan Ristovski is known to our Slovak neighbours, as he wears the jersey of Slovan Bratislava.
Romania was captained until the last match by Slavia midfielder Nicolae Stanciu, Sparta goalkeeper Florin Nita was also in the line-up, and youngster Ianis Hagi from Glasgow Rangers also deserves attention.
Macedonia is struggling in attack, scoring more than one goal in only one of the last five games.
The Romanians, on the other hand, have managed to score at least twice in three of their last five games.
Given the comfort in the visiting side, I recommend a bet on Romania not to lose.
