The best transfer period of all time! What are the biggest stars who changed their engagements?
The transfer window at the start of the 2021/22 season was arguably the best in football history. Several top stars have been traded to their clubs, and they have been joined by a pair of players who can certainly be counted among the best in the world.
The transfer window at the start of the 2021/22 season was arguably the best in football history. Several top stars have been traded to their clubs, and they have been joined by a pair of players who can certainly be counted among the best in the world. Who all has changed engagements?
Even before the start of the 2021/22 season, there was already talk that there might be some really interesting transfers. However, few people expected what happened.
Ranking by best transfer is difficult to list, as the value of a transfer or player may not be entirely telling. But two transfers stand out.
Lionel Messi ended up at Barcelona after his contract expired. The club could not afford to pay him due to La Liga’s financial fair-play and he eventually left for PSG. Cristiano Ronaldo also changed engagements and went back to Manchester United.
If we look at the most expensive transfers, Jack Grealish and his move from Aston Villa to Manchester City for just under €118 million leads the way. Second is Romelu Lukaku and his return from Inter to Chelsea for 115 million euros.
Next in the pecking order is Jadon Sancho, who returns to Manchester, but this time to the reds for €85 million. Behind him is Achraf Hakimi to PSG for 60 million euros.
Next in the pecking order are Ben White to Arsenal (58 million euros), Dayot Upamecano to Bayern (42.5 million euros), Raphaël Varane to Manchester United (40 million euros), Ibrahima Konaté to Liverpool (40 million euros) or Tammy Abraham to AS Roma (40 million euros).
However, these are certainly not the only interesting transfers. Clubs have also acquired players on loan with an option, such as Antoine Griezmann to Atlético, Nuno Mendes to PSG, Saúl to Chelsea or Moise Keane and Manuel Locatelli to Juventus.
But many players have also left for free, which concerns Memphis Depay and Sergio Agüero to Barcelona, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Georginio Wijnaldum and Sergio Ramos to PSG or David Alaba to Real Madrid.
However, many well-known players have still not been named. Marcel Sabitzer, Martin Ödegaard, Kurt Zouma, Danny Ings, Leon Bailly, Emerson Royal, Héctor Bellerín, Pablo Sarabia, Lucas Torreira and Alphonse Areola have also changed their clubs.
As far as Czech footballers are concerned, the biggest transfers are Antonín Barák to Hellas, Jakub Jankto to Getafe, Alex Král to West Ham, David Zima to AS Torino or Tomáš Vaclík to Olympiakos.
