French canon Karim Benzema has extended his current contract at Real Madrid ahead of schedule, signing a new deal until 2023. The 33-year-old midfielder was bound by a contract that was due to expire at the end of the current season. As a result, he and the management agreed on a one-year extension.
The White Ballet wanted to avoid a repeat of the situation with Sergio Ramos, when the star player left the club for free and then signed for Paris Saint Germain. The interesting thing about Benzema’s new contract is that he has an exit clause built into his contract, which amounts to €1 trillion.
Benzema joined Real in 2009 from French side Lyon. He has been with the Madrid club for 12 years now, and this engagement has been very successful so far. He has scored 194 goals in 384 league games for the Spanish big club, winning the Spanish league three times and the Champions League four times with Real among others.
The statistics of this player at Real Madrid are truly remarkable. As already mentioned his Madrid engagement lasts 12 years and it is certain that it will continue. During this time, he has reached several milestones.
He is the 10th best player in the number of games played (560 games in all competitions). He is even the 5th best scorer for Real in the club’s history. Only the legendary Santillana, Di Stefano, Raúl and Ronaldo are better.
The French striker has had one of the most successful seasons of his career, at least in terms of individual statistics. He has scored a total of 30 goals in all competitions, second only to former Barcelona star Lionel Messi in the La Liga scorers’ table with 23 goals.
There is no doubt that even at 33 years of age, he is still one of the most important players at Real Madrid.
