Barcelona’s icon Lionel Messi left before the season, the whole club is drowning in a major financial crisis. In order for the players to concentrate on football and not worry about the things around them, everyone needs to pull together. And this is traditionally facilitated by club dinners.
So the Blaugranas players went to one of the most luxurious restaurants in Barcelona before the season to tighten the group. All was revealed by Gerard Piqué, who was live on Twitch with the extremely popular Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos.
“Ibai, ask Piqué who paid for dinner, ” the Barcelona stopper laughed out loud.
Piqué then picked up the phone and called Griezmann to ask if he could publish the story. After a brief discussion, they agreed that Piqué would tell the story to the fans.
“We were in a fancy restaurant, there were over 30 of us, the whole squad and some youngsters who were with us in training,” Piqué began to tell the story. “We ate and toasted to a great season with expensive champagne, more than 30 of us, so imagine the bill,” Piqué laughed.
Last week it was revealed that Gerard Piqué had taken a pay cut to allow Barcelona to sign up new signings. Jordi Alba and Sergi Busquets have the same intentions.
“When we finish, we always play the card game. A couple of the most experienced players take out their credit card and get together. Someone impartial pulls out all the cards in turn, and whose card is the last one left pays. And guess what, it falls to Jordi Alba. He then walked in there, devastated, pissed off that he was going to take a pay cut and then be here to pay for dinner,” Piqué entertained thousands of fans on the stream.
So how much was the price of dinner? The Spanish defender did not give an exact figure, but when asked if it was more than 3,000 euros (roughly 76,000 crowns), he replied that the price was higher.
“The best part was when Sergi Roberto came in and Jordi said to him. Then when he saw the amount he was quite shocked,” Piqué entertained.
