Throughout history, SSC Naples has been represented by a number of outstanding footballers. Which of them have earned a place among the five best players ever to defend the colours of the Partenopei?
Edinson Cavani
The Uruguayan forward, currently playing for Manchester United, shone in Naples between 2010 and 2013 after arriving from Palermo. Cavani won over Napoli supporters with his admirable commitment and hard work, among other things.
His engagement is graced with several breathtaking and acrobatic stunts. His stats stand at 104 goals and 14 assists in just 138 games, which puts him in the current sixth position in the ranking of top scorers in club history.
Ciro Ferrara
The elegant yet tenacious and tenacious Italian defender has been with Napoli for one decade since 1984. Thanks to his excellent kicking technique, which after all was not as commonplace in the past as it is today, he was able to reliably set up the attack and play anywhere in the defensive line.
He played 319 games for the Azzurri, in which he netted 15 times. He has won the Serie A twice in the pale blue jersey.
Giuseppe Bruscolotti
The native of Sassano spent sixteen long years in Naples since 1972, giving joy at right-back, today we could use the English term full-back.
The number of competitive games he has played for the Partenopei stands at 507. In that time he managed to score 10 goals. For six years, he led his teammates as captain and celebrated with them, among other things, one Scudetto and two Italian Cup victories.
Marek Hamšík
The Slovakian midfielder holds the record for the most games played in the blue jersey with 520. Until recently, he also held the record for goals scored with 121, but that was broken by his former teammate and current SSC Napoli mainstay Dries Mertens.
To these goals, Hamšík added 100 goal assists. If it weren’t for Diego Maradona, the native of Banska Bystrica might be remembered as the best footballer in Naples’ history. He lasted 11 years in Campania before leaving for China in 2019.
Diego Maradona
Widely acknowledged as one of the best footballers in history. The Argentine left-footed genius was ahead of his time in perhaps all footballing skills. Vision, passing, shooting, finishing, tackles, dribbling. In all of these, he outperformed others, and it showed in Naples’ play.
Plus, his smaller stature made him elusive to most defenders. He was at the club from 1984 to 1991. During that time, he played 257 games, scoring 115 goals and assisting 33 more. Historically, one of the best. Rightfully so.
