Many great footballers have worn the Paris Saint-Germain jersey in its fifty-one year history. It was worth a trip to sunny Paris to see George Weah, Ronaldinho, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Jay-Jay Okocha and others play.
Many great footballers have worn the Paris Saint-Germain jersey in its fifty-one year history. It was worth a trip to sunny Paris to see George Weah, Ronaldinho, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Jay-Jay Okocha and others play. In this article, we highlight the five best ever to defend the dark blue jersey.
Safet Susic
The former Yugoslavian international used to play as an offensive midfielder. He was with Paris from 1982 to 1991, during which time he scored 96 goals and added 61 assists. In PSG colours, he enjoyed one league and one cup championship.
In 2010, France Football magazine named him the best ever PSG player. He excelled in individual technique and precision, and it was more than difficult to take a clean ball away from him.
Thiago Silva
The Brazilian stopper is one of the most important figures in the modern history of the Parc des Princes club. When he arrived from AC Milan in 2012, he was one of the cornerstones of a squad rebuild, made possible by a powerful new investor.
He was the cornerstone on which PSG built four French league titles in a row. They say a good attack wins games and a good defence wins titles. Silva was in charge of the Paris defence. He played 204 games for the club.
Ronaldinho
Dinho is not to be missed here, despite spending just two seasons at PSG. His tackles, goals, smile, exuberance and sheer joy of football were infectious. In his performance, football was simply an incredible show.
During his time in Paris, he appeared in 77 games, scoring 25 goals and adding 17 assists. After two seasons, Barcelona took a chance on him and sent a very solid €35 million to Paris for him at the time.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The Swedish cannonballer would probably rank himself in the top five. Unfortunately for him, he and his ego will have to squeeze into a single spot. The fact remains that he is one of the most important figures in modern history.
He has been defending the colours of Les Parisiens since the summer of 2012, when he and teammate Thiago Silva swapped the city of fashion for the city of lights. 180 games, 156 goals and 61 assists, that’s the calling card of Ibrahimovic, the second top scorer in the club’s history.
Neymar Jr
The Brazilian megastar of contemporary football is already one of the best to grace Princes Park. The technical finesse that Neymar does casually often cannot be imagined by other footballers.
The technical virtuoso messes with the heads and especially the legs of defenders, whom he is very happy to play with for longer than is morally acceptable, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have the desired numbers. Judge for yourself, 116 games, 87 goals scored and 52 assists. And the 29-year-old Brazilian is definitely not done yet.
