The speculation has been confirmed and the top scorer of the 2020/21 Champions League winners is leaving Chelsea. The 34-year-old striker will join Italian side AC Milan. Giroud changes jersey after 4 successful seasons in London.
Olivier Giroud has played 119 games for Chelsea. He has scored 39 goals and assisted 14. He was the top scorer of the Europa League (2018/19) and the Champions League (2020/21).
With Chelsea, he managed to win the FA Cup, the Europa League and the Champions League. Now he is leaving for a new challenge in Italy.
The Rossoneri will pay €1 million + €1 million in bonuses for the French striker. Giroud will sign a contract until 2023 with an annual salary of 3.5 million euros.
All that remains to be officially completed is the exchange of documents between the two clubs and Giroud’s medical, which could take place on Monday.
Giroud has been able to step in whenever needed. Although he has played fewer games than his teammates, he has never complained. He was highly praised by Sarri, for example.
“Giroud is a great professional, one of those who are always ready when needed. Before the Europa League final in 2019, Gianfranco Zola asked me how I was going to put it together and I replied that Giroud and Pedro would play because they have never missed an important game, and let him pick the rest,” Sarri was heard to say.
