A duel between two giants and two great rivals. England will challenge Germany at Wembley and will have a chance to undo an eleven-year-old World Cup defeat.
England came through the group stage unbeaten, beating Croatia and the Czech Republic and drawing with Scotland. At the same time, they did not impress with their performance, scoring only 2 goals and certainly not fulfilling their attacking potential.
Germany came out second in the group of death. It lost 0:1 to France, then beat Portugal 4:2 and drew 2:2 with Hungary. Although the play of Kroos and co. is on the surface brisk and quite attractive, the Germans lack a typical goal scorer who would finish all opportunities.
The Germans try to keep the ball a lot in the games, they have all the tools to do that too. Players like Kroos, Kimmich, Gundogan, Müller are like built for this style of play. England are trying to do the same, but are a bit more direct, though without much success.
However, one would expect neither team to want to make a mistake that would offer the opposition a goal. Probably that’s why the match will be very cautious at the beginning, just like the other eight-finals. Of the 4 matches so far, three times the score was 0:0 in the 30th minute.
