Croatia coach takes a dig at the Czechs after their elimination: this wasn’t a game against the Czechs, but against a very strong opponent
The Croatians are out of the European Championship after losing 3:5 after extra time, but they have done it to themselves. Before the two headed goals, two players failed to make the Spaniards’ job easier.
The Croatians are out of the European Championship after losing 3:5 after extra time, but they have done it to themselves. Before the two headed goals, two players failed to make the Spaniards’ job easier.
The Croats failed several times in the match at key moments. Ante Rebic left the field to change his cleats before the equalizer. Unfortunately for him, the Spaniards took advantage of the power play and quickly turned the game around.
His behaviour was not understood by Luka Modric, who took him to task after the end of the game, nor by former Spanish goalkeeper Santiago Canizáres.
“Your team is defending, it’s under pressure and you go to change kicks. That’s inexcusable. By the time the game is played, with seven minutes left in the first half, Rebic goes to get different cleats. Sarabia only took advantage of his recklessness,” he said in a Spanish television studio.
A second “offside” led to a Spanish goal. After a refreshment break, Josko Gvardiol was slow to return to his position at left-back, but his opponent quickly played a long kick just to his side, Gvardiol missed, slipped and it was the Spaniards’ third goal.
Leipzig coach Zlatko Dalic did not understand the behaviour of the talent. He even took a dig at the Czech Republic and Scotland, indirectly calling them weak opponents
“Our opponent deservedly punished these two situations. Obviously, we still have to mature as a team and avoid some things. We need to do them better. This was not a game against the Czechs or the Scots, but against a very strong opponent who will punish you for any mistake.”
