On Tuesday, it was revealed that VfB Stuttgart footballer Silas Wamangituka is actually a year older than previously reported. The club itself made the announcement. Moreover, the Congolese midfielder has a different name.
The player himself has contacted the club to have his true identity made public. In his own words, he was the victim of the machinations of his former agent.
Silas Wamangituka’s name is Silas Katompa Mvumpa and he was born on 6 October 1998, exactly one year earlier than previously reported.
Whether this case will have any legal ramifications is not yet known. Stuttgart, however, believes that the player was eligible to play in the German top flight.
Silas played a very successful season in which he was one of the biggest player surprises of the year. For example, against Bremen he scored a goal when he waited for a provocatively long time in front of an empty net before finishing.
However, Silas tore the cruciate ligament in his knee in the match at Bayern Munich and missed the rest of the season. But discussions about his true identity are nothing new with this player.
Back in December 2019, a French newspaper came out with the information that the footballer is actually someone completely different. Even then, his real name and date of birth were already published.
However, everything was only in the level of speculation, and so only the player himself made the whole matter clear and illuminated. His agent at the time pressured him and procured a fake identity for him to sever ties with his parent club in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Meanwhile, Silas Katompa Mvumpa has already changed his player agent and his passport details have also been altered. He is rehabilitating himself and is preparing for next season in Stuttgart after a serious injury.
