Portugal, one of the favourites for the European Football Championship, will enter the tournament with a match against group outsider Hungary. How will Cristiano Ronaldo and co. fare?
Hungary have enjoyed their preparation for the big tournament quite a bit. First, they beat the unpleasant Cyprus 1: 0, then four days later they drew with Ireland (0: 0). So it looks like the defensive is going strong.
Portugal also left the preparation with one win and one draw. First, it played goalless against its neighbour Spain, then scored four goals in the following game against Israel and set itself up for the Euros with a 4:0 win.
Hungary’s mainstay is Roland Sallai, the Freiburg winger scored eight goals and assisted six times in the league. Dominik Szoboszlai, Peter Gulácsi and Willi Orban have also had good seasons.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been firing for the Portuguese side, scoring twenty-nine times in Serie A and adding two assists. Joao Cancel, Ruben Dias and Renato Sanchez also did well.
Hungary is not doing well against Portugal, unbeaten for thirteen games (0-4-9).
Portugal has a unique opportunity to become the second national team to defend its European triumph. So far, only Spain has done it.
Given the quality of Portugal’s attack, I think they will win and score at least two goals at the same time.
