End of legend. Ibrahimovic is set to leave AC Milan but still wants to fight for a place at Euro 2024
Zlatan Ibrahimovic hasn’t played much this season. He has been suffering from prolonged health problems and so it is not surprising that we are unlikely to see him in an AC Milan jersey. However, his career is not over yet.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic hasn’t played much this season. He has been suffering from prolonged health problems and so it is not surprising that we are unlikely to see him in an AC Milan jersey. However, his career is not over yet.
Four games, 144 minutes and a single goal. That’s the record of the Swedish legend this season. More health problems did not allow. And since he is still nursing an injury, he will not appear in the last league game of this Serie A season.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic will probably not play for AC Milan then. His contract expires in the summer and, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he will not be offered a new contract this time.
However, he will apparently attend the match against Verona at the San Siro this weekend. Instead of saying goodbye on the pitch as a player, he will say goodbye in the stands. And although he will celebrate his 42nd birthday in October, it’s not the end.
After all, Ibrahimovic wants to continue his career and one cannot be surprised. After all, when healthy, he can be an asset. He has shown that in previous seasons since his return to Italy.
After arriving at AC Milan in January 2020, he played in 78 competitive games, scoring 37 goals and adding 11 assists. Incredible numbers considering his age. And if not for his health, he could have done even better. He was one of the key elements in winning the title after 11 long years.
Ibrahimovic would love to appear at Euro 2024 in Germany. That is his main motivation to continue his career. His last national team start was in March against Belgium in a qualifier for the aforementioned European Championship.
It is not yet clear where he might head after the season. However, a return to Malmö, Sweden is definitely on the cards, and it is not out of the question that he could receive some generous offers from clubs outside the European continent.
