On Saturday the fourth tournament of Fight Night Challenge took place, where we could watch several boxing matches. The main attraction of the evening was the duel between Petr Kníže and Patrik Vrbovský alias Rytmus. After the fight both fighters paid tribute to each other.
A veteran, a legend and a unique personality. All this is Petr Kníže, a man who is one of the biggest icons of the local combat sports scene. And he’s still active, even though he’s 45 years old.
Against him in the boxing ring on Saturday stood Rytmus, one of the most respected and listened-to rappers of the Czechoslovak music scene and a man who has taken up boxing in recent years and has already measured his strength against, for example, Gábor Boráros.
Now, however, the Slovak rapper was facing the biggest challenge of his career. He had never faced someone like Monster before. And it showed. The prince often tried to take the fight to the clinch, but the referee didn’t let him.
But the Czech kept up the pressure, landing punch after punch and literally bullying his opponent, who was experiencing something similar for the first time. But Rhythm showed a big heart, withstood all the hard blows and held on until the end. However, he lost on points.
The prince complimented Rhythm
Petr Kníže initially didn’t want to take the fight, but Attila Végh, who was also at the event, convinced him. And that’s how Rhythm learned what a one-sided match is. But that’s exactly what Monster had planned.
“All my matches are like that, I need to push. I don’t like to be pressured myself, then something can turn into something that, nobody wants. I want to be in control of the match. I was rather surprised that I hit clean a couple of times, he just looked and nothing, it went on,” Monster said in the cage.
“Obviously I enjoy it, but I was really surprised that clean punches came through and still kept going. Hats off to him. I definitely wouldn’t want to get what he got,” added Knight.
Rhythm has never experienced anything like it
However, the popular rapper also commented on the course of the match. He began his comments by admitting that he had never encountered a similar style before. He said he is used to the boxing pressure he is trained for. There were several people taking turns in training but Knight went nonstop.
“Of course, the fact that I have four fights under my belt and all of a sudden you have Monster in front of you and he runs out right away and goes nonstop played a part. It wasn’t that he dumped a combination and backed off. He was pouring it on from all sides nonstop. I just thought I was well trained, I had a solid cover and I could take it,” Vrbovsky said.
According to Rytmus, the Prince went into the fight with absolutely no respect, saying that he must have thought that no singer with four fights would threaten him. “I felt his confidence and experience. It’s a great honour for me to be able to take on such a man,” he concluded his statement.
