Danny Ward’s single goal saved Huddersfield. Neil Warnock once again showed his skill in saving another team

Neil Warnock completes Huddersfield’s great escape and Reading are relegated to League One. Huddersfield with Tomas Vaclik were in big trouble before Neil Warnock was called up. The former Sheffield United coach took over the team in February and eventually managed to stay in the league by a considerable margin.

the 74-year-old Warnock arrived at the John Smith’s Stadium in February when the Terriers were heading for relegation to League One. The club were in 23rd place and were one point off the bottom of the table.

During the season the management sacked managers Danny Schofield and Mark Fotheringham after disastrous performances. But it wasn’t until Warnock halted their declining form that confidence was restored and they were finally able to celebrate their league rescue on Thursday night.

“It would be the biggest achievement for me, ” Warnock claimed before the game when asked where he would rank Huddersfield’s rescue in a career that includes more than 1,600 games and a record eight promotions.

The atmosphere at the John Smith’s Stadium was very tense. Warnock’s message was also broadcast on the screen before the game. He urged fans to remain seated after the game.

Once again, he did just that

Daniel Jebbison missed two chances in the first half, but Huddersfield were soon rewarded for their fightback when Danny Ward scored from a left angle. Chants of “There is only one Neil Warnock” were heard amongst the away fans. They were reminiscing about the time he was their manager between 1999 and 2007 and managed to get them into the Premier League.

With the win against promoted Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield’s players secured their Championship status and sent Reading into League One for the first time since 2002.

“One more year, one more year,” chanted the home fans. Warnock will retire at the end of his latest rescue mission.

With six wins and four draws in 14 games since taking over and a fifth win in his last eight games, he has done just that.

Monday’s clash against Reading will be more of a celebration for the Terriers than the final league game.
