Are you sure Juventus don’t have 59 points? We are in Italy, José Mourinho said at a press conference a few days ago
It already seemed that Juventus would not make much of a dent in the Champions League battle and after the points were deducted, both clubs from Rome and Milan would be in contention for promotion. Now, however, everything is different and José Mourinho has predicted the future.
It already seemed that Juventus would not make much of a dent in the Champions League battle and after the points were deducted, both clubs from Rome and Milan would be in contention for promotion. Now, however, everything is different and José Mourinho has predicted the future.
Juventus Turin can start celebrating. On Thursday, they won an appeal at Italy’s highest court. The fifteen points originally deducted were restored to them, making the battle for the cup places much more interesting.
Before the points deduction was restored, Lazio Rome were in second position with 61 points. José Mourinho and his AS Roma were breathing down their necks with 56 points. In fourth position was AC Milan. It has three points less.
Everything was still very closely watched by the other club from Milan, Inter. The footballers under Simone Inzaghi were two points behind the fourth position.
Juventus spoke very loudly with their comeback and returned to third position with 59 points. This pushed AS Roma down to fourth place with a three-point loss.
José Mourinho and his words
Very timeless now are the words that the Portuguese coach said in the press conference after the game against Torino.
“That we are third in the table? Are you sure Juventus don’t have 59 points? After all, we are in Italy,” he expressed his concern.
So it seems that the cancellation of the penalty and the return of the deducted points is not something that Mourinho had not counted on and he certainly prepared himself and his players for that possibility.
There are eight rounds left in the Italian league, which probably won’t offer a title fight, but we can look forward to a huge Champions League clash in return.
