West Ham welcome Newcastle to their stadium, who clearly outplayed Manchester United at the weekend and are now looking to add a fourth scalp in a row. How will Soucek and co. fare against Eddie Howe’s rampant team?
Newcastle went through a crisis in February, which started with a 1-1 draw with the Hammers. The Magpies were very active, but the solid defence of their opponents was only overcome once by Callum Wilson, in the third minute of the game.
After that came three defeats to the giants – Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City, all three games ended 2: 0. However, it has to be said that Newcastle did not lose any of these three games in any significant way!
Their last three matches, in which they have scored fully, corresponds to a good performance and also to their position in the table. Considering the circumstances, Newcastle is definitely a big favourite to finish in the top 4.
It is West Ham who have different worries as they are fighting to stay in the Premier League and on top of that they are playing the Conference League, where they went through to the quarter-finals via AEK Larnaca. The English side are big favourites to win the title, which could secure them European Cups for next year.
Let’s hope Soucek and co. don’t get relegated to the second league while playing in the Europa League. However, at the very end of the season they will face Leeds United and Leicester, who are currently mired in the relegation zone, so they will have everything in their hands.
But they need to start picking up points and that will be very difficult against a rampant Newcastle side. However, the London side hasn’t lost any of the last three meetings.
However, both teams have been doing quite well lately and they could carry their scoring appetite into Wednesday’s duel. In the last 4 duels between the two teams, both teams have managed to assert themselves and it could be the same this time.
