Soucek: You need to get a lot more chances and score against a team like that. It’s difficult to play to the full

The Czech national team failed to make it through the second qualifying match, drawing 0:0 against Moldova. Captain Tomáš Souček knows very well that this is a big disappointment.
Before the start of the meeting, four points would have been taken by everyone. But it was counted on that it would be the other way around – beating Moldova and drawing with Poland.
Once the Czechs had already managed to beat their biggest rival for the group title, beating Moldova was a must. But it didn’t happen.
In the FIFA coefficient, the Moldovan national team is only the fourth worst. Behind it are only Liechtenstein, Gibraltar and San Marino.
“With respect to such a team, you need to get a lot more chances and score goals out of them,” captain Tomas Soucek knew well after the match. “It’s always difficult to play to full strength when they have so many players in the whitewash. We tried to put enough strikers and centres in but we couldn’t get anything going,” added the West Ham midfielder.
He could have scored himself, but only hit the crossbar. “Cvančara was good at crossing it to me. I believed I could get it further forward, I came back with my left foot, but you have to hit it. I tried to take it as far down as I could because I was a little bit behind. It was centimeters. You have to convert it,” Soucek recalled of his chance.
Poland defeated Albania in the second game and now has three points. The Czechs got one more and are now at the top of the table.
“Four points would not be bad before the reunion. We believe that all Czech fans will believe in us, we are first in the group, which is important. We just need to learn from this match. We want to be the best we can be and to advance, that’s our goal. We’ve just made it a bit harder for ourselves. We got two points less than we wanted after this match,” said the national team captain.
In June, Jaroslav Šilhavy’s charges will play against Faroe Islands. The next qualifying match is in September against Albania.
