Conor McGregor to talk about career ending. UFC changed my life, says Irish star
Conor McGregor and his year? Quite possibly. Because he’s about to go back in the cage, so he’s all over the place. He’s attracting fans, media. His fight with Michael Chandler is one of the most anticipated of the year. But the Irishman has also spoken about the end of his career.
Conor McGregor and his year? Quite possibly. Because he’s about to go back in the cage, so he’s all over the place. He’s attracting fans, the media. His fight with Michael Chandler is one of the most anticipated of the year. But the Irishman has also spoken about the end of his career.
The Irish superstar returns in style this year. However, it’s a question of when, as Conor McGregor is at loggerheads with anti-doping agency USADA, who insist that the star fighter must be put on a testing program for six months before he is allowed to fight.
McGregor claimed something completely different until recently, referring to an agreement with USADA, only for the latter to deny his words. Either way, if he wants to fight later this year, he still has some time to be included.
But the opponent is certain. It will be Michael Chandler, the man he faces as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter series. Ira has two fights left on his UFC contract, so Chandler will be the first.
And what’s next? That remains to be seen. However, it’s likely that we won’t see the Irish star outside of the UFC again. “Get some boxing dollars or something else? No, I’m not interested in that anymore. The UFC is the pinnacle for me. I love this organization. I want to stay here for the rest of my career. Hopefully I can,” McGregor told MMA Fighting.
It’s worth noting, though, that McGregor has tried boxing outside of the UFC. He made a hefty sum for his fight with Floyd Mayweather when he was set to earn over $100 million, despite splitting the revenue with the UFC and Mayweather Promotions.
“I like the UFC a lot. It’s an organization that changed my life. It’s given me a lot. It’s helped me in a lot of situations in my life. It’s just my organization. Hopefully they feel the same way,” the Irishman added.
McGregor last fought in July 2021 when he was injured in a fight with Dustin Poirier. He has lost three of his last four fights. Despite that, he has no shortage of challenges from potential opponents.
