Messi and a return to Barcelona? It’s fifty-fifty, Agüero enthused the fans
Lionel Messi and Barcelona is a connection that no one could have imagined would ever be broken. It just did, but now there is strong talk that Messi could return to Catalonia in the summer. And even Messi’s close friend Sergio Agüero has spoken out about it.
Lionel Messi and Barcelona is a connection that no one could have imagined would ever be broken. It just did, but now there is strong talk that Messi could return to Catalonia in the summer. And even Messi’s close friend Sergio Agüero has spoken out about it.
Messi’s return to Barcelona has been in the spotlight again in recent days. The Argentine is out of contract at PSG and reportedly has no plans to extend it after two eliminations in the Champions League eight-finals.
Thus, there is constant talk that the Rosario native could return to the club of his heart, Barcelona. These speculations have been confirmed by one of Messi’s closest friends and former Blaugranas player, Sergio Agüero.
“I think Leo Messi should end his career in Barcelona because that is his home. I think Laporta (Barcelona president) should try to bring him back and if Laporta makes a step forward, Messi will return to Barcelona. At the moment it’s 50-50,” Agüero said during a meeting of the presidents of the Kings League, the futsal league founded by Gerard Piqué.
He has excited the majority of Barcelona fans. They would certainly like to see the return of their “god”. But the word “most” in the first sentence has a point. Some wouldn’t want Messi to return, as it took Barcelona time to wean themselves off their dependence on Messi and when they finally did, everything would go back to the way it was.
There is another problem. Barcelona is in huge financial trouble and can’t even register Gavi in the first team. La Liga president Javier Tebas has already informed the club that they have lowered the salary cap again for next season.
So not only can they practically not bring in new players, but they can’t even keep the current squad. In order to fit the cap, the Catalans will have to sell some players.
But we would probably all like to see Messi return to Barcelona, a player of such greatness deserves to end his career at his beloved club and not at PSG.
