25. the round of the German Bundesliga offered us an interesting duel between Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich. The favourite of this duel was clear, Bayern is going for another title, although they had a strong Borussia Dortmund in their back. And it was the latter who now got ahead of the Bavarians.
Bayern took the lead in the 22nd minute through Joshua Kimmich, but Leverkusen turned it around from two penalty kicks that were safely converted by Exequiel Palacios.
The 2-1 scoreline for Leverkusen lasted until the end of the match, giving the home side a vital three points in the chase for the cup.
It should be noted that Leverkusen, along with Patrik Schick and Adam Hložek, are in great form.
Including the match against Bayern, Xabi Alonso’s charges have won three of their last four league games and are currently eighth with three points behind sixth-placed Frankfurt.
Bayern have won three consecutive games, but failed to win the important game against Leverkusen and dropped to second place behind Dortmund. Of course, the Munich team cannot be happy with the situation.
We are not where we want to be
“If you look at the whole game in perspective, it was a deserved defeat. We are definitely not where we want to be in the Bundesliga. It was a really important game today, which we knew beforehand, but we didn’t show it on the pitch,” Müller said in an interview with the club’s website.
“Now we want to get through the international break without injury, then we have a big game at home against Dortmund. But we definitely didn’t count on going into it like this,” he added.
“Leverkusen’s win was well deserved, we were lethargic today. We were the worse team until the last ten minutes. We just didn’t offer enough today, it wasn’t good enough,” coach Nagelsmann added to Müller.
