Messi behind Ronaldo? Saudi Arabia will bend the law for him, the player’s father was already in Riyadh

That would be another megabomb. Will Lionel Messi follow in Cristiano Ronaldo’s footsteps and head to Saudi Arabia? Reportedly, the whole thing has been set in motion and Jorge Messi, the Argentine footballer’s father, has already been in talks in Riyadh.

The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo was not enough, Saudi Arabia wants more. In January, the Portuguese phenomenon arrived at Al-Nassr and became the highest paid footballer in the world.

But Saudi Arabia wants more and is now thinking of bringing in Lionel Messi. For his sake, politicians are even willing to bend the law and increase the salary cap so that the Argentine can arrive in Riyadh.

Messi would play for Al Hilal, the most successful team in the history of the Saudi Arabian league, which recently played against Real Madrid in the final of the Club World Cup. According to Spanish daily MARCA, Messi would take exactly the same as Ronaldo to keep the balance.

The Portuguese currently earns 220 million euros a year. Ronaldo’s income doesn’t just go for footballing performances, but largely for commercial purposes, as would Messi’s.

Messi’s contract at PSG expires on 30 June and although it seemed he would extend it after the World Cup, there are no indications at the moment. The situation at the club is not ideal after the second consecutive Champions League eighth-final exit.

Messi’s original plan was reportedly to spend two years 2 at PSG, and then leave to finish his career in the MLS or another smaller competition. Thus, Saudi Arabia is not giving up on its dream of having two of the best footballers in history in its competition.
