Slovak midfielder Ján Greguš will continue in Major League Soccer. After the end of his contract in San Jose, he considered returning to Europe, but this option is still on hold. The experienced midfielder has agreed a contract until the end of this year with Nashville SC.
Slovakian international Ján Greguš has spent the last four years in Major League Soccer in the US, where he played for Minnesota United and San Jose Earthquakes.
So far, he has played 97 competitive matches overseas, scoring three goals and notching 22 assists.
Earlier this year, Gregus’ contract with San Jose expired, after which he became a free agent. There was speculation about his return to Europe, where teams such as Scotland’s Rangers FC and France’s Rennes were seeking his services.
However, a return to the old continent has been delayed. The former Jablonec player has agreed a deal with Nashville SC, who play in the American Major League Soccer.
Thirty-two-year-old Gregus has agreed to a contract until the end of the calendar year 2023. Nashville management also holds an option for an automatic extension for another year.
Gregus could start his first game on Saturday against the New England Revolution. Nashville is excited to sign an experienced player.
“We’re excited to have him strengthen our team. People in the club have been fans of him since they saw him play for Minnesota and for the first time in MLS as well as for his country. We believe he fits what we were looking for in this role on and off the field. His pass production and playmaking make him a welcome addition,” said Nashville general manager Mike Jacobs.
