Norwegian striker Erling Haaland scored another hat-trick for Manchester City. This time he scored for the Sky Blues to advance to the semi-finals of the FA Cup against Burnley (6: 0).
After progressing in the Champions League, Manchester City needed to deal with another opponent. This time they faced Championship leader Burnley, who coincidentally are managed by Vincent Kompany, in the FA Cup.
It must be added that they dealt with this challenge superbly. One might think that the Citizens would relent after Wednesday’s 7-0 win over Leipzig, but the opposite was true. Three goals from Haaland, two goals from Alvarez and a Cole Palmer strike meant a comfortable 6: 0 win.
Probably everyone who follows football will agree that Erling Haaland is having a near perfect debut season in a Manchester City jersey. The team can rely on his goal allocations in almost every game, even if he is not involved in the game to the maximum.
And when it does happen to look like Haaland’s form is going downhill, Nor will answer the critics like he did this week. He just scores eight goals in two games.
The Norwegian giant has already shone in the week when he contributed five goals to the Champions League progression over Leipzig. City eventually wiped out their German opponents 7-0 at home. And Haaland made history again. No one has scored more than five goals in a Champions League knockout match, only Messi has scored five.
Journalists joked that Guardiola had deliberately pulled Haaland out early because he didn’t want him to break Messi’s record. The Spaniard subsequently joked about that in a post-match interview too.
